Tel Aviv, Israel. February 19th, 2015Contacts, a short film by Nir Berger and Yogev Yefet, was chosen by an international panel as Israel’s representative to the Hong Kong International Mobile Film Awards. The choice was announced at the Made for Web 2.0 competition in Tel Aviv. The competition was organized jointly by the Israeli Association of Television and Film Producers in collaboration with YouTube and the Israeli Ministry of Economy.

Contacts was chosen as part of an international competition involving 9 countries encouraging the creation of web videos following the rising global demand for web content. The countries include Israel, China, Korea, Singapore, Canada, France, Greece, Brazil and Australia. The Israeli initiative came from the Israeli Ministry of Economy’s trade attaché in Hong Kong, Elad Goz.

At Made for Web 2.0, Family Business won first prize amongst the professional films category and My Affair with ISIS was selected in the student competition. The winners were selected out of thirteen finalists— ten professional and three student entries – which were chosen from among the nearly 150 entries, including pilots for web series and trailers for original films. The finalists received cash prizes totaling NIS 120,000 and a trip for a special internship at YouTube Space in London.

Jonathan Levy, Director of Digital Media at the Investment Promotion Center of the Israeli Ministry of Economy, said: “The partners in this initiative are proud to have this opportunity to increase international exposure for Israeli films. All the finalists were great but only one was chosen by the international jury to represent us at the finals. Contacts is a wonderful film and we wish it much success in Hong Kong.”
